Norwegian soprano Margrethe Fredheim has built a successful career in Germany over the past decade, performing more than 40 roles within the lyric-dramatic repertoire. Her most significant roles include Elsa (Lohengrin), Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro), Marie (Wozzeck), Kátá (Kátá Kabanová), Tosca (Tosca), Lisa (Pique Dame), Desdemona (Otello), Amelia Grimaldi (Simon Boccanegra), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Agathe (Der Freischütz), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), as well as Freia (Das Rheingold), Gerhilde (Die Walküre), and Gutrune (Götterdämmerung) in Wagner’s Ring cycle.

In addition to her permanent engagements at Theater Erfurt and Staatstheater Kassel, she has appeared as a guest at Oper Leipzig, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Glyndebourne Festival, Theater Chemnitz, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, and Staatstheater Braunschweig. She has also performed with orchestras including the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic.

Margrethe is a prizewinner of several international competitions, among them First Prize at the Lauritz Melchior International Singing Competition in Aalborg (2020), the Gold Medal at the inaugural Hong Kong International Singing Competition (2018) under the patronage of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, and the Mozart Prize at the Wilhelm Stenhammar International Music Competition (2014).

She studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music, Manhattan School of Music, and Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Going forward, she will be heard more frequently in Norway, with upcoming engagements including Festival Fjord Classics, followed by her much anticipated house debut at the Norwegian National Opera in the season 2026/2027.
